Don’t Post and Then Ghost!
We’ve all been there. We feel the need to get something posted. We toss up a picture, pen a quick caption and then it is on to the next thing on our to-do list. But you aren’t doing your business any favors by posting and then ghosting! In fact, you might be doing more harm than good.
A ‘successful’ account is one that is ROBUST and ENGAGED! By that I mean an account that posts with consistency, fosters dialogue through comments and direct messages, and engages in the community at large.
Next time you’re tempted to post and ghost… set aside 35 minutes and complete these three steps with intention and purpose:
ONE:: At least 15 minutes BEFORE posting, spend time engaging with current and potential followers. Respond to comments on your posts, like and comment on other posts, respond to DMs, view and respond to stories.
TWO:: Post! Be sure to use targeted hashtags for your audience and for the specific post.
THREE:: At least 15 minutes AFTER posting, continue to engage in a meaningful way. Comment and like posts that used the same hashtags you used on the post. Respond immediately to any comments left on your most recent post.
If you actually spend 35 minutes following these three steps each time you post, you will see a difference in the number of followers you have, and, more importantly, in the amount of engagement you receive. People love to interact with others who are equally engaged.
To keep the momentum going, I also recommend completing these two steps on the same day you post:
ONE:: Jump on a couple hours after posting to leave thoughtful replies to any additional comments your post has received in that time.
TWO:: Share the post to your stories to offer another way for your followers to see it.
