Engagement Tactics to Employ

Last week we talked about 4 engagement tactics to avoid on social media, things such as buying likes, using comment pods, etc… But what should you do?

Honestly there is really only one way to move your engagement numbers in a way that is going to help build your business. Although, I will share four more things to consider when it comes to increasing your engagement.

One: Connect - in a meaningful way.

Sure, you can like a post. Yes, that is engagement. But is that going to build a relationship? No.

That would be like going to a networking event and going around just saying hi to everyone present. You might connect with one person as a result, but chances are you’re going to exert a lot of effort and get very little reward.

The same applies to your social media presence! Think instead of starting up a conversation. Usually that begins with something you have in common and includes open ended questions to promote further dialogue.

For instance, you could leave a comment that says, “great quote.” Or you could leave a comment that says, “Great quote. Do you know what book it came from?”

One invites further comment and interaction. The other ends the conversation.

Or let's say someone comments on one of your posts. You shared 5 tips about something you’re an expert in and someone leaves a comment saying the post was really helpful. You can respond with, “Glad it was useful.” OR something a little more engaging, like “Glad it was useful. Was there one tip in particular you’re going to try?”

Two: Replicate your previous posts that got a lot of engagement.

Those analytics tell you what you need to know about your audience and their preferences. Don’t take it for granted. Make more of what they like.

And remember, the same message can be shared in a variety of ways - a funny Reel, a text-heavy carousel post, a meme with a meaty caption. Do what resonates with your people.

Three: Include a call to action in all your posts.

This can be subtle or overt but make sure you are asking people to perform a certain action. Sometimes we need to be reminded to do something.

Want more on how to use a call to action? Check out episode 6 of the Reimagine Social Media podcast or you can read an earlier blog post all about it.

FOUR: Post at the optimal time.

There are all sorts of gurus out there that will tell you to post at this specific time and to do so while standing on your head. But it’s really not rocket science.

Take a look at your analytics, see when the majority of your followers are on and post in that time frame.

Why? Because it gives your post the greatest chance of being seen by the greatest number of your people. Then the more who see it, and hopefully engage with it, the more the algorithm will show it to others.

FIVE: Scheduled engagement time.

Whether that is 10 minutes a day, 5 days a week. Or 30 minutes twice a week. Schedule it!

This might sound daunting and you might be thinking I don’t have the time for this. But trust me, you have more time than you think! Just take a portion of the time you usually spend mindlessly scrolling on IG and use that to engage instead!

Hope these 5 Engagement Tactics have been helpful. Let me know on Instagram @RosebudSocial is there is one particular tactic that resonated or if you have questions about something I haven’t mentioned!
