How to Discover Hashtags that Work for You

Hashtags can be a powerful tool when it comes to growing your business and finding your ideal clients. But let’s be honest, they can also be highly frustrating! But I promise, it doesn’t have to be! Follow these three steps to find hashtags that work for you:

One: Learn from your competition!

Take a look at what others in your industry are doing. I’m not saying copy and paste their hashtags into your next post. But take a look and see what hashtags are they using? Make a list of the ones they utilize that are a good fit for you and your business. Consider adding those into a future post to see if they offer you any traction.

Two: Look at your analytics.

For a few days, try the less is more method. Utilize only a handful of hashtags and check your analytics. Is there a certain hashtag or small collection of hashtags that has brought you more views? Use that again! If you use hashtags that aren’t getting you any love, ditch those for something better.

Three: Brain dump words and phrases that apply to you.

Away from the gram, take pen to paper and jot down words or phrases that apply to what you are doing. Make a list of 50, or more! After you have that list, take a look at each one individually on Instagram and see if the other posts that use the hashtag match what you and your brand are all about. If they are a good fit, you’ve found a new hashtag to use. If the fit isn’t great, cross it off and move on to the next one.
