5 Things Your Social Media Profile Must Have
All too often a post will pop up on my IG feed, or I’ll be exploring businesses online and come across their Facebook page, only to leave frustrated that I can’t easily locate the information I want. Missing some key components can mean the loss of a sale. It could mean a potential client going elsewhere to get the very service/product you provide.
So take a few minutes today and do a quick audit of your social media profiles and make sure they have these 5 things:
One: Working Link to Your Website.
I see two major errors with this first one - either no website listed at all, or an incorrect/dead URL. Both will mean the end of the road for a potential client. The likelihood of them heading over to Google to try and find you is low. You want to give your current and future clients all the tools they need to be able to work with you. A working URL is a must.
Two: Your Contact Information.
The website is not enough! More and more deals, collaborations and business begins online. A client might slide into your DM’s. Or they might want to send you a quick email or call you up to clarify something. Making them do the extra work of search for your contact information, is too much in our world of short attention spans and dozens of other brands vying for their business. Give them what they need to get ahold of you - right from the get go.
Three: Location
On a nearly daily basis I get followed by some brand looking for business but located so far from me I could never work with them to get a haircut or buy a swimsuit. And the reverse happens too, I will often stumble upon a brand who provides a service I’m really vibing with, only to realize after doing some research that they are located in Australia or London. Having your location clearly indicated on your profile - whether you have a location specific business or not - is really helpful in ensuring that the contacts and follows you do get are people who could actually use your services.
Four: Brief, Engaging Mission Statement
Whether you call it your mission statement, your why, your passion, your purpose - it doesn’t matter. The point is, a potential customer wants to know what you’re all about at your very core. Make it really easy for them! Use clear and engaging language. Don’t leave them guessing about what you do and the services you provide. Make it clear. Don’t write a novel. Keep it brief and to the point.
Personally, I like Simon Sinek’s Why statement equation best: I XYZ so that others ABC. You can tweak it to fit your mission and message. Rosebud Social’s looks like this: I empower the small business owner to use her/his voice authentically and profitably on social media.
Five: Clear Profile Picture
The image you choose to represent your brand is really important. The picture should be clear and recognizable. No one should have to squint at the screen to try and figure out what you are looking at. The image should be engaging too. Something that will make your potential client want to stop and take a second look. And, the image should be pretty consistent across all your platforms to make your brand easily recognizable no matter where they stumble upon you.
