How To Avoid Writing Out Hashtags with Each Post

Hashtags are an essential part of each and every post you share on Instagram! And if you’re worked your way through the Create Your Own Hashtags Collections worksheet chance are you have dozens of different hashtags that you use depending on the theme of the post you’ve created. (Psst… if you haven’t gotten the worksheet yet, it’s free!)

Typing those out each time you add them to a post is time consuming. And, honestly, it’s a total waste of time! Yeah, I’m one of those people that LOVES to find the most efficient way to do anything - because every extra second I save is an extra second I can spend working on something else that’s more fun.

Rather than type out the hashtag collection each and every time you post... do it once!

Three easy ways to streamline the hashtag process:

ONE:: Open a new note on your phone and type out each hashtag collection as you have created it. Be sure to indicate at the top of the collection the post category or theme so that it is easy to find them afterwards. For example, I have categories called: Girl Boss, Social Media Coach, Small Business Owner, etc…

Then, when posting, copy and paste the entire collection into the post caption or comments. After pasting it in be sure to delete any hashtags that don’t work specifically for the post, and add any additional ones you need.

TWO:: Create a keyboard shortcut, aka a text replacement. Yes, you can make an entire hashtag collection into a single text replacement! Just be sure to make the phrase something that is easy to remember but not something you are going to use in your normal posting. I recommend using a ‘word’ that has all the vowels removed. For instance, for my social media coaching collection my shortcut is ‘cchng’.

Never made a keyboard shortcut before? It’s simple. On an iPhone go to settings, keyboards, text replacement. From there press the + in the top right corner. Add your phrase, aka the full hashtag collection. And then in the Shortcut box put your abbreviated word. From then on all you need to do is type the shortcut and your whole hashtag collection will pop up!

THREE:: Use an app like Plann or Planoly, which will store and then paste your hashtag collections into posts as you see fit. This is the option that I use the most now since I plot out all my content via Plann.
